Are you a Local Group? Do you Need a Hand?

Project Aims

The Development Project is funded by the Big Lottery Fund. The project started in 2002 and has just been granted funding to continue until 2008.

Our aim is to assist local voluntary and community groups in the Harborough District. So far the project has supported a wide range of groups from across the district, including groups from Market Harborough, Lutterworth, Broughton Astley and surrounding villages.

The Project also facilitates the Voluntary Sector Forum, which ensures networking and sharing of good practice between local groups. This Forum is held on a quarterly basis. To find out more about the forum and dates for the next meetings click on the partnerships button at the top of the page.

Services offered

Advice on a range of issues including starting up a new group, funding and fundraising, filling out forms, policy development, preparing a constitution, becoming a trustee and applying for charitable status.

• Funding searches.
• Short term assistance in servicing a new project.
• Member groups are supplied with a copy of the NEXUS Newsletter – this is produced on a bi-monthly basis and contains up-to-date and relevant information about local activity, funding and much more.
• Printed directories of voluntary groups and venues in the area.
• Access to the Internet.
• Loans of books/publications on topics of interest to community groups.
• Loan or use of equipment including display boards, flip chart, laminator, TV, video and overhead projector.
• The preparation of posters, leaflets, AGM invitations and articles etc.

The Social Capital Project

Current and new legislation are making it more difficult to attract grant aid schemes, which help small community groups, charities and small social enterprises to trade and deliver valuable services.

The Social Capital Programme is now finished.

It was designed to help you to look for alternative sources of funding and plan for a more sustainable service delivery. This could be through income generating activities that would reduce your grant aid needs.

Engage - Impact 'A vision for the Voluntary Sector'

The aim of the 'Impact' project is to develop a vision for the voluntary and community sector in the East Midlands, that sets out what its contribution to civil society should be over the next 10 to 20 years. One of the key reasons for developing a manifesto is to ensure that the sector is proactive in shaping its own future and, where appropriate, robust enough to resist pressure from funders, central government and local government.
