Befriending - An IntroductionVoluntary Action South Leicestershire provides two Befriending Schemes, the Good Companions Scheme and the Mental Health Befriending Scheme. Both schemes provide volunteers who make regular home visits to offer social contact to people who are isolated and lonely. Befriending is achieved by recruiting suitable volunteer befrienders and matching them with someone waiting to be befriended. The volunteers are provided with intial training and ongoing support by the Befriending Schemes Project Worker. Good CompanionsThe Good Companions Befriending Scheme offers regular one-to-one support and friendship to older people 65 years and above who live alone and feel isolated and lonely. Mental Health BefriendingThe Mental Health Befriending Scheme offers regular one-to-one support and friendship to people who have experienced or are experiencing mental health difficulties which have left them feeling lonely, isolated and lacking in confidence. Referrals to the SchemeIf you know someone that you think may benefit from a volunteer befriender visiting them once a week for a social chat you can refer them to the scheme yourself. First of all, check with the person that they are in agreement for you to refer them to the scheme then contact the Befriending Schemes Project Worker, Hilary Dunsmore by:
