Social Capital Surveys

The survey process was led by the Council for Voluntary Service (CVS) in each District. Each CVS recruited a team of volunteers from a range of voluntary and community organisations, who conducted the survey work in their target communities. The volunteers conducted doorstep surveys of approximately one in four households.

Once the survey work was completed in each of the communities, the results were analysed and a summary report produced for each area. These reports will then form the basis of development plans for each community and will be discussed and considered by local groups in each area.

Each of the local groups included representatives of the key voluntary and community sector organisations operating in that district, as well as local Councillors, Parish Councils, faith groups, school governing bodies and other statutory service providers.

These local groups will then develop a targeted delivery plan to respond to the key messages about the strength of social capital in each of the communities i.e. if a particular community has issues around social inclusion, it may be relevant to organise community events to allow people to get to know one another and their community or promote opportunities for people to get involved with local groups. This plan will be delivered between Summer 2006 and March 2009.
